Luscious rare woods (oud, cedar) blend with exotic spices and deep, rich red roses for a seductive mysterious fragrance that’s sensual and empowering. With delightful notes of black pepper, Damascus Rose, Oud, Patchouli, Sandalwood, Cedar wood, Amber. A powerful encounter of rose and oud, seductive and mysterious. Nothing but a miracle could have produced a love story a hundred and fifty years in the making, and this proves that no matter what we think as we make our way through life, love is always just around the corner, ready to woo us away. All we have to do is keep our hearts open, and love will be caressing like the petals of a rose, deep as the roots of an oak.

Eau d'Italie Acqua di Positano

For the first time, Eau d’Italie, the fragrance house of the iconic Amalfi Coast hotel, Le Sirenuse Positano, is launching a new luxury capsule collection centered around the Acqua di Positano fragrance. Blending Salt Grains and Orange Flower Absolute, with sparkling top notes of Citron, the fragrance evokes the lemon trees on the cliffs of Positano overlooking the Mediterranean where the Siren Islands, inspiration for the hotel’s name, appear in the distance. Petitgrain distilled from the leaves and twigs of the Seville bitter orange tree accentuates the citrus nature of the fragrance with its refreshing green woody scent with floral undertones.

Acqua di Positano Eau de Parfum

My favorite place on Earth is Positano along the Amalfi Coast (and I say this after only spending four hours there), so any excuse I can find to remind myself of this perfect slice of heaven is worth it. That’s why I was so excited when Eau d’Italie decided to debut its newest fragrance, Acqua di Positano, as part of a capsule collection to celebrate Eau d’Italie’s 20th birthday. With notes like citron, petitgrain, orange flower absolute, and driftwood, it brings me back to the most divine lunch I had at Le Sirenuse’s La Sponda restaurant with my mom, surrounded by lemon trees and the dazzling blue water below. If you want Positano in a bottle, this is it. —Jessica Radloff

Summer 2024 Perfume Highlights: Acqua di Positano Eau d'Italie

Acqua di Positano Eau d'Italie

Not being a person who is strictly guided by the rules when it comes to choosing the right kind of perfumes according to each season, I usually follow my mood of the moment when choosing the perfume(s) I will wear that day. Some strong perfumes, like heavy tuberoses open in all their splendor on sun warmed skin and you can feel all their rich nuances, Carnal Flower, Balade de Tiare de Tahiti L' Arc, Fracas, Lys 41 and Perdizzione being my favourites, and for the evening, towards the end of a long day at the beach or site seeing, ideally at a dinner in the garden of a restaurant in Provence, a floral-aromatic chypre and is ideal and then I prefer Sisley Eau du Soir, Mystere de Rochas, Safari Ralph Lauren, or Dioressence.

However, I have always considered that very fresh perfumes, reminiscent of the most appetizing cocktails with sparkling citrus juices, should not be missing from any summer fragrance wardrobe and from any vacation luggage. You never know when you need an extra boost of revitalization. As it is not a category neglected by perfume houses, we have a lot of lovely options, and I just discovered Acqua di Positano launched this year by Eau d’Italie.

I follow with interest everything that Eau d'Italie and ALTAIA launch, both houses being owned by the same eternally in love couple, Marina Sersale and Sebastián Alvarez Murena, their exclusive collections being inspired by travel, symbolic places for their relationship, such as the famous family owned 5 stars hotel La Sirenuse on the Amalfi coast, Sicily, Argentina, the lake area of the northern region of Italy or lush and romantic gardens.

Acqua di Positano perfectly encapsulates the Italian summer with its irresistible and vibrant aromas of lemon peel, orange blossom and sea breeze. Light as a breeze, calm as the sea in a sunny morning and uplifting as the scent of an orange grove in bloom, this is a unisex and universal perfume that celebrates summer, offering freshness and good mood, its notes combining in a very natural and pleasant way. The opening is tinged by the citruses with bitter peels and juicy flesh, soon being accompanied by the fragrant petals of orange blossoms, white and delicate, as if they were embroidered on a bride's veil. However, here the orange blossoms do not fully open their petals so that their well-known sweet nectar spills over the other notes, as we know they tend to do from many famous creations such as Safanad, Love Don't Be Shy or Paradoxe, but they maintain a fresh floral allure, almost innocent. What tempers their "sensualization" is precisely the salty note of sea spray that envelops the composition in an ozonic, outdoorish and energizing feel, coming as a refreshing splash in the heat of summer right at the moment when everything around seems to be melting.

The exhilarating freshness of the salted breeze defines and maintains the supremely clean character of this citrus-marine fragrance, while a delicate dry tone of wood enriches and anchors the composition. The power of this perfume does not lie in its duration on the skin, but in the sophisticated way in which it so vividly evokes a beautiful seascape in the middle of summer. And sometimes, nothing more is really needed.

Acqua di Positano the Fragrance of “A Dream Place”

Acqua di Positano - The Fragrance of "A Dream Place"

Positano is “a dream place,” so writer John Steinbeck described it, “that isn’t quite real when you are there and becomes beckoningly real after you have gone.”  Le Sirenuse Positano is indeed a dream, the hotel has earned iconic status in the seven decades of its existence.  Once a family villa in a sleepy fishing village, now a celebrity hotspot known the world over, it’s celebrated in a fragrance collection, Eau d’Italie, created originally to honor the hotel on its 50th Anniversary.  Now twenty years later Eau d’Italie celebrates the birthday of the original fragrance with the launch of Acqua di Positano, a love song to Positano.

Are you sharing Steinbeck’s perception of Positano as a “dream place?” And looking to carry the scent memories of this treasured destination with you long after you’ve returned? Eau d’Italie understands. And so they have created Acqua di Positano, a perfect summery blend of Salt Grains and Orange Flower Absolute, with sparkling top notes of Citron and Petitgrain, a fragrance to bring home the delight of being in Positano wherever you are in the world. After all, fragrance is the most irresistible way to keep the sun and sea of Italy’s Amalfi Coast close at hand every day.  Acqua di Positano makes that dream come true, from $55 at https://www.beautyhabit.com/collections/eau-ditalie

As the introduction to Le Sirenuse explains, “Ever since the early Middle Ages, positanesi have been travelers, crossing seas and oceans, making contacts. But we (the Sersale family) carry our small ‘vertical’ town with us wherever we go. The azure Mediterranean in front, the mountains behind, a stack of jaunty houses, bougainvillea, and lemon trees: even on a busy New York sidewalk, this picture floats somewhere in the middle distance, like a film projected on mist. We carry our small ‘vertical’ town with us wherever we go.”

The story of this dream place explains the family behind the hotel is “a story of survival against the odds, vital maritime energy, and a natural instinct for hospitality.” Le Sirenuse was founded by the Sersales, adoptive positanesi as they were originally from Naples. Positano was, they reveal, “a delightful seaside refuge from Naples’ summer heat and intense urban life, a place for summer vacations and the occasional weekend.”

As they explain, Positano and Naples share traditions, saints, recipes, dialect expressions, and the wayfaring ways inherited from common ancestors.  By the time WWII was over, Positano became home. And in 1951, the Sersales opened their home, their summer place, to the world. Word spread.  Those in the know began to discover the charm of Positano and the pleasure of the Sersales’ hospitality.

Earning a spot at the top of the best of the Amalfi Coast lists from ELLE and Conde Nast Traveler, not to mention the status of inclusion in 50 Best Hotels in the World, is simply a natural extension of the hospitality the Sersales have always offered: “Looking after guests, introducing them to the things locals love to eat and drink, telling them our stories and listening to their own.” For this family, it wasn’t such a big leap to open their home, Villa Giulietta, as a hotel called Le Sirenuse in 1951. All those who visit are honored guests, or family as they are affectionately known.  And for these guests, fragrance is always a favorite takeaway. This year the most coveted scent among the artisanally authentic fragrances of Eau d’Italie, is sure to be Acqua di Positano the newest fragrance conceived by Marina Sersale and her husband, Sebastian Alvarez Murena.

Luxurious Italian Fragrances You Must Try

Made in Italy perfume brands are internationally renowned for their use of high-quality ingredients, dreamy scents, and competitive price points. While luxury fashion houses like Giorgio Armani and Versace are well tapped into the fragrance world, there are other Italian brands focused solely on perfumes, and in some cases, also bath and body products, that are equally deserving of attention. These luxury companies strive to bring a taste of “la dolce vita” to their customers with scents inspired by Italy and the Mediterranean.

These three luxury Italian perfume brands should be a staple in your fragrance collection. Ranging in price from $100 to $490, with floral, oriental, fresh, and woody notes for both men and women, there’s something for everyone regardless of their preferences and budgets. All three brands ship to the United States.

Eau d'Italie

Eau d'Italie is the signature fragrance and body care collection of Le Sirenuse, a 5-star luxury resort set on a cliff overlooking the town of Positano on the Amalfi Coast. Founded in 2004 to celebrate the hotel’s 50th anniversary, their fragrances are inspired by Italy and the beauty of the Amalfi Coast. Luxury scents like Mystic Sunset, with notes of saffron, sugar cane, and cedar wood; Acqua Decima, with lemon, mandarin, neroli, petitgrain, and wild mint; and Un Bateau Pour Capri, with peony, freesia, peach, jasmine, and cedarwood.

27 Weird Mother's Day Gifts That Your Mom Would Be Nuts Not To Love

Your mom is there for you always, and you really only need to return the favor one day out of the year.

But there is a lot of pressure to get mom a gift that she will like — and, more importantly, that shows you get her as a person, not just as a parental figure.

On top of that is the pesky little fact that, like most people, your mom is probably a closet weirdo.

Luckily for you and your mom, HuffPost Weird News has once again combed the world looking for gifts that will surely appeal to her, whether it’s headphones with kitty ears, a portable urinal or bath products inspired by the movie, “Shrek.”

You don’t have to thank us.

Cannabis Perfume

"Mom, remember how you kept asking about that strange herby smell from my room late at night?" "Yes, it was very strange." "Well, yeah, but there's an explanation. I got you some perfume that is scented like cannabis." (19-69 Chronic Eau de Parfum) "Cannabis?" "Yes, do you like the smell?" "Kinda herby. Reminds me of the smell of that nursery your sister works at?" "The dispensary?" "Yes! Well, thank you!"

ALTAIA Amank'ay

WHAT I SMELL:  Sparkling like sunlight on gemstones, a touch of pink pepper ignites Amank'ay.  And right from first spritz, the perfume embraces you in a warm enveloping hug that’s both comforting and invigorating.  Soon, a delicate lotus flower unfolds, its ethereal beauty grounded by a whisper of cool, aquatic depths.  As the perfume continues to develop, a soft ambrette melds with the warmest of sandalwood, along with what seems to be a bit of gourmand sugared glaze that is as subtle as a whisper.  In the end, Amank’ay surrounds the wearer with a beautiful bloom.  Amank’ay is gorgeous.

From the Atlaia website:

In Patagonia, where the wild rugged landscape lets emotions roam free, legend tells of the Amank’ay flower which symbolizes the tender surrender of one’s heart.

Nestled between ancient forests and fast-flowing rivers, the spectacle of an Amank’ay meadow in full bloom touches the soul of all who behold it, and it is this awe-inspiring beauty that Marina and Sebastián sought to encapsulate in a luminous tribute to the sweet bond of love.

Amank’ay, the flower of love.

Notes: Pink Pepper, Nashi, Helvetolide, Lotus Flower, Ambrette Seeds, Sandalwood.

WHAT IT SMELLS LIKE TO ME: A dream-like lotus flower dance.

THREE WORDS THAT DESCRIBE AMANK’AY: Calming, contented, soothing.

WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING ABOUT AMANK’AY: No written reviews found.

BOTTOM LINE:  Amank’ay is like meditation in a bottle.  It’s so beautiful in form and feeling and easily will make you feel calmer as soon as it graces your skin.  This could easily be a much needed addition to your collection…especially when you need some time for quiet reflection.

Bottling your holiday is a growing business.

A couple’s romantic idea to capture the scent of their luxurious family hotel in Positano has launched an international range of fragrances.

Australians love Italy’s Amalfi Coast. You could ask, who doesn’t? Yet apparently, we like to souvenir it, too. The husband and wife creators of two best-selling Positano-based beauty and fragrance brands have launched an exclusive stockist deal with Mecca, after building a profile here via travelers bringing the scents back home.

Sebastián Alvarez Murena and Marina Sersale, whose family owns and runs the landmark Positano hotel, Le Sirenuse, launched their Eau d’Italie fragrance 20 years ago.

It’s now expanded into a range of bath and body products and a further 16 fragrances. There’s also a range called ALTAIA, or A Long Time Ago In Argentina.

“Sebastian and I met in Positano [after 9/11],” says Sersale, during the couple’s visit to Sydney in March. Due to travel being halted, a party celebrating the 50th anniversary of Le Sirenuse was cancelled, “so we met at an intimate birthday party that my cousin held.”

Sersale, a British-Italian documentary maker, and Murena, an Argentinean journalist, decided to mark the occasions with a fragrance that would capture the spirit of the hotel and the Amalfi Coast as they saw and felt it.

“We started working together on the Eau d’Italie project without declaring that we were doing it,” explains Sersale. “I was officially the one in charge, but I didn’t know much about fragrance. It became more and more our project, and then it became our work together.”

They sent out tendrils of inquiry to the tight perfumery industry before eventually coming across industry maverick, Bertrand Duchaufour. Their brief to him would become the blueprint for Eau d’Italie: “No lemony smell,” smiles Sersales. “Positano, lemons, Sirenuse, citrus – no.”

The debut fragrance (Eau d'Italie) was of Le Sirenuse in summer: tuberose, magnolia mixing with the incense of the nearby churches, tartness of blackcurrant, and underneath that a matte, caramel-like accord they say is the smell of sunbaked clay that lingers over the hotel at that time of year.

It was a hit. The experience with Duchaufour and the success of Eau d’Italie set off the second act of this love story – they married in 2008.

ALTAIA is the story of the couple’s ancestry when about 160 years ago, Murena’s great-great-grandfather General Bartolomé Mitre, the first president of a unified Argentina, opened the country up to foreign investment. One investor was Sersale’s great-great-grandfather, British entrepreneur James Morrison.

Fragrance names playfully reference personal anecdotes or details. There’s Don’t Cry For Me, an “olfactive homage to Buenos Aires” that was inspired by Murena’s childhood memories of the Argentine capital. The peppery rose of Any Day Now tells the story of their combined history and almost predestined meeting back in 2001, while Yu Sōn is the scent of the moment they first met.

Both ranges are popular in Australia. Asked why, Sersale says “Maybe it’s the fact that you are at the Antipodes. Far from a sort of European-centric vision. I think it gives you an absolute edge because the world isn’t Europe-centric any longer. And the Antipodes are becoming far more important from every point of view.”

Celebrity Favorite Fragrance Fresh from the Hollywood Hills Cult Classic Child Perfume

As the scent of Spring wafts through open windows, what better time to embrace child perfume, the lush, natural scent of white florals freshly picked from the Hollywood Hills. Artisanally crafted in small batches, child is a cult classic fragrance that’s built a devoted celebrity following for more than 20 years. Originally created by Susan D. Owens as her own personal fragrance, child perfume quickly earned celebrity fans among them Jennifer Aniston and Nicole Kidman, becoming an insider’s favorite, a subtle, sensual scent for those in the know.

Child’s easy beachy vibes make it the ultimate California girl fragrance after all, it was the first California-curated perfume. Perfect for the woman who loves the free, fresh wind in her hair, one who cherishes the feeling as she climbs among the dunes, of living life without care, enjoying the freedom of walking barefoot on the beach, feeling the sand and the surf beneath her toes.  child transforms an almost warm day when spring is still a tease into sunshine-streaming bliss.

Bring that blissful feeling home with this mesmerizing blend of exotic jasmine, tuberose, orange blossom, and magnolia with demure hints of lilac, rose, and violet and just enough patchouli to bring to mind the bohemian vibe that’s so chic again. Put on Fleetwood Mac, listen to Stevie Nicks singing Dreams, or tune into Riley Keogh in Daisy Jones and The Six, a modern vision of Stevie, what better way to revisit promises of love? Dream away, be transported. Light the scented candle, it’s made of pure soy and coconut wax with a white cotton wick ($65 for 8 oz) it should provide about 40 hours of burn time, long enough to relax and enjoy more than one evening of rekindled romance.

Slather on child perfume body extremely rich body creme to give skin a hydrated sheen, the rich vitamin-infused blend helps restore moisture, and its fragrance-infused essential nutrients radiate an aura of feminine sensuality (8 oz jar is $85).  Dab the exceptionally long-lasting perfume oil on pulse points, it’s an accessible investment at $68  (1/3 oz.) or $98 (1 oz.). Spray the limited edition extrait de parfum to create that head-turning, incredibly memorable allure that captivates even a random passerby much less the one you love ($150 for 50 ml).  John Mayer once stopped a Rolling Stone interview to follow a woman wearing child. It leaves a lasting impression that women love and men don’t forget.

Hollywood loves child. This beautiful powdery blend of lilac, magnolia, and vanilla, with a touch of citrus top notes, slides gently into middle notes of jasmine, tuberose, violet, and then eases into a finish of warm, enticing base notes of musk, mimosa, rose and soft woods. No wonder child perfume counts Britney Spears, Christina Applegate, Denise Richards; Hilary Duff, Jenny Garth, Kim & Khloe Kardashian, LeAnn Rimes and so many other women of note among its fans.

Child is vegan, not tested on animals, free of Phthalates, Parabens, SLS and Silicone. All child perfume fragrance and home essentials are available on www.childperfume.com or www.beautyhabit.com.

Ligne St Barth: Vacation in St. Barth From Home

Ahead of summer, many of you might be scanning travel catalogs and stumble upon St. Barth, the tropical paradise nestled in the Caribbean’s Barthélemy Channel. What makes this island so magical? The answer lies in the richness of St Barth itself, the exquisite luxury of the white sand beaches, the tropical bounty of exotic fruits and fragrant flowers, and the overall naturalness and sophistication of St. Barth itself. Here, Caribbean nonchalance is simply a way of life.

This is encapsulated in Ligne St Barth, the luscious body care brand that fragrances you with the magic of St. Barth, all from the comfort of home.

The family-owned firm headed by founder and CEO, Herve Brin, is known for combining generations of knowledge with up-to-date research to create unique formulas, equally innovative and timeless products tailored to modern lifestyles on or off the Island. Ligne St Barth is sold around the world (in 30 countries). However, if Caribbean travel is not on the immediate agenda, you can find the brand online at Beautyhabit.com, the modern luxe apothecary that’s long been the go-to place to find Ligne St Barth’s complete collection in the U.S.

With 40 products in Ligne St Barth’s portfolio, snag these must-haves at the Ligne St Barth boutique in Gustavia or order online from Beautyhabit.com to indulge in pampering, Caribbean rituals without leaving home.

Herve Brin launched Ligne St Barth in 1983 with just three products: St Barth Huile de Coco (Coconut Oil), Huile d’Avocat (Avocado Oil) and Gel d’Aloè (Aloe Gel). Cultivating recipes he learned from his grandmother, a “medicine woman” descended from the Arawak Indians, the Island’s original settlers, M. Brin revealed, “I started in the discipline of science – and decided to make a business out of it. At that time my grandparents used to produce coconut and avocado oil. I decided to do something with it and modernize the presentation. I used rum bottles as the packaging and I hand-wrote the name of each product with a golden marker. [Eventually] I opened a small shop for locals and tourists. It took time but it prospered through word-of-mouth.”

Brin marketed these initial batches in thorough Caribbean style; he packed them in a suitcase and hit the beach. In these early days, he traversed the white sands and caught the eye of sun-worshiping tourists. Soon, Ligne St Barth quickly became a coveted keepsake from the Island. The secret to the line’s success? M. Brin explained, “Ligne St Barth celebrates a passion for an idea: an invitation for people to indulge in Caribbean well-being.”

Four decades later Ligne St Barth is a cult classic you’ll find at the world’s most exceptional wellness destinations. Mango, papaya, lily, vanilla orchid and more; there’s not a Caribbean ingredient left unused. “Avocado oil from Martinique, Roucou seed (these red seeds are used in Ligne St Barth‘s popular Roucou tanning oil not available yet in the USA) from Dominica, the Aloe Vera from Curacao or French Guyana and Vetiver from Haiti,” said M. Brin.

These natural ingredients compose the products which are all made in St Barth from recipes handed down in M. Brin’s family for generations. Among Ligne St Barth’s famous followers is supermodel Claudia Schiffer (currently starring in spy movie “Argylle”), who swears by the Avocado Oil scented with Tiare flower (Gardenia), which provides a replenishing, nourishing treatment after a day at the beach. Monaco’s Princess Charlene is a fan of the Vanille West Indies fragrance, the Creole-inspired sensuous essence of creamy caramel with a hint of orchid.

Ligne St Barths offers something for everyone. Versed in the traditions that shape Caribbean scents, M. Brin chose to bring a contemporary perspective to the category. For men, he introduced three new fragrances, each an Eau de Parfum: L’Original, a vital, invigorating citrus floral; Vetiver, a sensual smokey green classic made with the finest Vetiver from Haiti; and Islander, a Pirates of the Caribbean-worthy, spiced-up modern spin on classic Bay Rum.

With Ligne St Barth, M. Brin has made the allure of the island accessible to us all wherever we are in the world. But what exactly has he bottled? “The atmosphere,” he said, “It’s very peaceful – very relaxing – the beauty of the landscape, enchanting sunlight, friendliness, the essence of the fruits and flowers…it’s simply captivating.”

Landlocked or ocean-bound, dockside or curbside, Ligne St. Barth does indeed captivate, enveloping you in a world of Caribbean nonchalance where relaxation rules. Find their fragrant collection in the USA at Beautyhabit.com.

Eau d'Italie Liquid Soap and Body Lotion - Fig & Berries

Do you love luxe hand soaps? I do, I admit. They're a real treat. Elevating the everyday I guess we'd call it and I am all for that.

As a fan of Eau D'Italie's fragrances it wasn't hard to imagine I'd love their newest releases of liquid hand soap and body lotion.

Both liquid soap and lotions come in eight different scents housed in 300 ml pump bottles. All the fragrances sounded quite good but I went with Fig & Berries. The hand soap is lightly scented with a green, berry fragrance. It's not overly noticeable but soft. The soap itself is a thin liquid that doesn't lather too much, which I like, but gets hands clean without drying them out thanks to coconut and olive fruit oil. Do I love this, yes. I use it sparingly so it doesn't run out too quick.

The body lotion is well scented, not too thick or too thin lotion and  moisturizes nicely with shea butter and almond oil. It dries pretty fast too, leaving a soft scent trail behind. Fig and Berries is slightly sweet  and woodsy with plenty of fig and blackberry. The lotion is more strongly scented than the soap with more of the berry and fig.

With Easter and Mother's Day coming, these make great gifts. Useful but deluxe selfcare, who doesn't want a little bit of Italy, the Amalfi Coast and Positano where the brand originates from, by the bedside or vanity? It's all La Dolce Vita.

Eau D'Italie hand soaps, body lotions and fragrances are exclusive to Beautyhabit.com in the US. You can find the full selection online.

A Love Story 150 Years In The Making - From Argentina To Italy With Amore

A Love Story 150 Years in the Making

The love affair with South America and its rugged, wild lands began more than a century ago for two different families, the Mitre and the Morrisons, when they crossed paths in Buenos Aires. Their encounter in 19th-century South America and the modern-day love story of their direct descendants who serendipitously met in Italy 150 years later is captured in the elegant, minimalist fragrance collection ALTAIA, the acronym for “A Long Time Ago in Argentina.” Only after they were married in 2012 did Marina Sersale and Sebastian Alvarez Murena discover how a remarkable series of events linked their families together once upon a time in Argentina. Instead of celebrating with a brilliant bottle of Malbec, Marina and Sebastian took their connection and their inspiration to an olfactory level and created a new perfume collection, which they called ALTAIA. Committed to the art of perfumery and the power of storytelling through scent, not to mention their shared history and true romance they created fragrances with each Eau de Parfum’s olfactory element intended to evoke their interconnected past and present.

Each ALTAIA fragrance has a unique resonance, striking a contemporary emotional chord rooted in long-ago legends and their modern meaning, consistently sharing timeless messages of love. The newest launch, Amank’ay, is named for the ethereal lily-like blossom, known as the flower of love, an incarnation of an ancient legend revealing the sweet bond of love. Amank’ay flowers cover rolling valleys in the wild lands of Patagonia, a place where emotions roam free among deep ancient forests and cobalt blue fjords framed by icy mountaintops. Marina and Sebastian say that “the spectacle of an Amank’ay meadow in full bloom touches the soul of all who behold it, and it is this awe-inspiring beauty that we sought to encapsulate in a luminous tribute to the tender surrender of one’s heart.”

This enchanting mix of petals, woods, and spice captivates the wild at heart as the fragrance blends the delicate essence of pear blossoms and lotus flower with a hint of pink peppercorn and the warm, sensual finish of Amber, Musk, and Sandalwood. Amank’ay is the newest entry in a sublime collection of ALTAIA fragrances including Any Day Now, a dark, deep sensual fragrant invitation that proves as Sebastian and Marina want us to understand, that “love waits, ready to surprise us, hiding just out of sight. Without warming it will sweep us away,” they emphasize that to encounter love, we have to keep our hearts open and wait for “love’s caress, as soft and fragrant as rose petals, to entice.”

Thinking that we need to feel sexy in our own skin, Marina and Sebastian created a fragrance to honor Argentina’s famed desert – Atacama – known for its salt flats and rare wildflower bloom, an unpredictable coating of the landscape in Fuschia flowers They created a beautiful, sophisticated Eau de Parfum that serves as a metaphor for this desolate ground, the highest desert on earth, the closest environment on this planet to Mars. Flowers float by on a dry summer breeze, tantalizing, just beyond our grasp. Like the scent of the blossoms carried on the wind, the seeds that lie beneath the sands of Atacama come to life with one kiss of rain. The notes, a subtle harmony of delicate flowers, freesia, and jasmine with a woody finish, soft and sensual as cashmere are luxurious, and gracefully understated, making Atacama a fragrant experience of quiet luxury.

Of course, the ALTAIA collection goes on to include many stellar scents, all – eight in total – are available at Beautyhabit for USA customers. Among the ALTAIA scents, Wonder of You – joyful, sun-loving, Tuberose in Blue – a trip to Rio where enchantment prevails, Don’t Cry For Me – hot summer nights in Buenos Aires, Yu Son – intoxicating, passionate love and By Any Other Name – .a modern sultry floral. Find the one that speaks to your heart.

The Spirit of Nature – Skincare and Scents from Ligne St Barth – an Interview With Ceo and Founder Herve Brin

Arrive in St Barth, by yacht of course, and the luxury begins, dockside spa treatments await from celebrity favorite, Ligne St Barth, luxury skincare and fragrance synonymous with the beauty and sophistication of this phenomenal Caribbean destination.  Whether you’re there to party, like Leonardo DiCaprio, or just relax like Princess Charlene of Monaco, a pampering facial or soothing full body massage with the natural essences of the Caribbean’s fruits and flowers is the refresher you need before disembarking. Ligne St Barth Founder and CEO, Herve Brin, realized back in the 1980s when he started this naturally indulgent and supremely effective line dubbed “the spirit of nature,” that no CEO much less a Hollywood star would want to be seen in these posh circumstances looking and feeling anything but vital and energized. Of course, Ligne St Barth under M. Brin’s stewardship has grown vastly since it began in the early 1980s. You will find the line at exclusive wellness retreats from Manhattan (of course, including The Hamptons) to Malibu. Spas worldwide offer Ligne St Barth, notably here in the US you will find their treatments at The Delano in Miami, and Shutters on the Beach in Santa Monica. Ligne St Barth offers 40 products in the line, it’s available in 30 countries around the globe. Beautyhabit.com, the modern luxe apothecary, has long been a champion of Ligne St Barth, their e-commerce site offers the best of the collection shipped to your doorstep.

Essentially Ligne St Barth is a cult classic,  the go-to resource for four decades now, it’s the ultimate Island takeaway for those in the know who discovered the line during a visit to St. Barth – and now depend on it when they can’t be there. It all began for Herve Brin with his Grandmother, descended from the Island’s original settlers, the Arawak Indians.  She taught him the healing properties of the fruits and flowers native to the Island, growing in their garden. And so he learned to press the oil from Coconuts and Avocados and sold these early elixirs – still in the line and still best-sellers – on the beach. Made in St Barth from all that is local – mango, papaya, lily, vanilla orchid, and more – Ligne St Barth is based on recipes handed down in M. Brin’s family for generations.

The place to stay in St Barth is the Eden Rock, the first hotel built on St Barth, for 50+ years the ultimate haven for the rich and fabulous. It’s only natural then that this equally coveted spa collection would be the treatment protocol of choice for the hotel’s glamourous Eden spa. Spa manager Laura Derozey, considers their menu of treatments with Ligne St. Barth “an olfactory journey, a sensory voyage inspired by an iconic local brand because we are an iconic hotel in St. Barth,” noting that the most popular treatment is the Eden Flower Treatment, a relaxing massage with frangipani (plumeria) flowers. Though M. Brin’s grandmama may have gotten him started with skincare essentials, after all, a family tradition, his own motivation took him further, “I started in the discipline of science – and decided to make a business out of it – at that time my grandparents used to produce coconut and avocado oil – I decided to do something with it and modernize the presentation. I used rum bottles as the packaging – I hand-wrote the name of each product with a golden marker – I opened a small shop for locals and tourists.  It took time but it prospered through word-of-mouth. Even celebrities come to my shop for the products.” The signature Ligne St Barth product is Avocado Oil scented with Tiare flower (Gardenia) fragrance. An after-sun hydrating, replenishing treatment for hair, skin, and body according to its many fans including Claudia Schiffer, supermodel and star of the new spy thriller, Argylle. Coming in second, M. Brin, reveals is the sumptuous Mango Butter Creme. And then for cooling refreshment after a day in the surf, there’s the Aloe Vera Gel With Mint. Men love this spearmint-infused gel as an after-shave.

All indigenous ingredients are locally sourced, M. Brin explains, “Avocado oil from Martinique, Roucou seed (these red seeds are used in Ligne St Barth‘s popular Roucou tanning oil) from Dominica, the Aloe Vera from Curacao or French Guiana. Where to find Ligne St Barth on the Island? “We have two shops  — one in Gustavia by the harbor and one at the facilities where they are produced. It’s in the countryside.” Ligne St Barth knows what a man wants, M. Brin explains. After all, Stephen Spielberg and Michael Kors are fans of the line, stocking up on every visit. You’re likely to find them in the Island’s Gustavia shop rubbing elbows with other A-listers enjoying holiday sojourns in St Barth, among them JLo and Ben Affleck, Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez, Beyonce and Jay Z, Gwen Stefani, and even, Elon Musk.

Reinventing Caribbean fragrance tradition is on M. Brin’s agenda, to that end he recently expanded the Ligne St Barth immensely popular men’s collection with a new trio of scents, each a long-lasting eau de parfum: L’Original – a crisp invigorating citrus floral, Vetiver – a sensual warm green classic made with the finest Vetiver from Haiti and Islander – Pirates of the Caribbean-worthy, spiced-up modern take on classic Bay Rum. You could say M. Brin has captured the allure St Barth in a bottle, so the question is, what keeps fans of the Island coming back for more? “It’s very peaceful – a very relaxing atmosphere – no one will try to sell you anything – the beauty of the landscape, the brightness, friendliness, cleanliness, it’s simply captivating,” M. Brin continues. “No advertising billboards or fast-food chains. Very good infrastructure and very good Internet services, and a good food supply chain from the US and Europe – we have world-class gastronomy with great chefs and a great choice of restaurants. Plus French cabarets in a beautiful atmosphere. Here, women can wear their most beautiful jewelry and men can wear their most expensive watches.”

Landlocked or Ocean-bound, dockside or curbside, Ligne St. Barth will sweep you away to a world of Caribbean nonchalance where relaxation rules. Find their fragrant collection in the USA at Beautyhabit.

How Perfumers Put Vacation in a Bottle

Aw, the scent of travel.

There are many types of souvenirs to buy on vacation. But for Kimberly Waters, it’s all about the perfume. An earthy vetiver scent she bought in Cuba still makes her reminisce about dancing down cobblestone streets with friends. A Grenadian bay leaf fragrance reminds her of the island's lush plants and flavorful food. When she sniffs the amber notes of Midnight Call by Les Soeurs De Noe, she remembers purchasing it on a summer trip to Greece. Waters, who is the founder of curated fragrance company Muse (Modern Urban Sensory Experiences), which she describes as “art gallery meets fragrance,” sees scents as having a direct connection to places and experiences—hence her inclination to add to her collection on trips.

“The scent becomes tangible,” she explains, “allowing you to relive the moments, recall the landscapes, and revive the emotions associated with that specific place. It's a way for individuals to carry a piece of their favorite destinations with them.”

Whether it’s a vetiver perfume acquired in Cuba or a bay aroma from Grenada, there’s no denying that scents are heavily linked to how we make connections to everything we’ve seen or done. A 2021 study highlighted how the brain’s hippocampus (the memory hub) works with our olfactory system.

It comes as no surprise, then, that many hotels have taken note of the feeling that scents can evoke and come up with their own custom fragrances. Take the Le Sirenuse hotel in Positano, which created its Eau d’Italie signature scent (Eau d'Italie Eau de Parfum) in the wake of a canceled 50th anniversary celebration. The scene of the Amalfi Coast typically brings visions of lavender, citrus, and an ocean breeze to mind, but “we didn’t want to be obvious in our way of portraying Le Sirenuse in a fragrance,” says Eau d'Italie Fragrances co-founder, Sebastián Alvarez Murena.

More than two years of development later, the resulting scent—which Murena says is meant to embody “the sensations experienced on the terrace of Le Sirenuse”—certainly has a sea-salted breeze, but also some less expected notes that truly make it a signature for guests who’ve visited the nearly-hundred-year-old property. Lemon, black currant, and sea salt highlight the airy freshness of the Amalfi Coast, while terracotta and frankincense call attention to the hotel’s handmade tiles and the church that sits below the property. People have responded well to the fragrance, which has expanded to an entire line of scented diffusers and body lotion, with bottles designed to mimic the colorful homes of Positano.

Still, while the packaging is appealing, Morena says, “More than images, more than any other thing, fragrances take us directly to a place, moment, to a person.” When guests purchase Eau d’Italie, they’re transported back to the sun-drenched Sirenuse with every whiff.

The Season’s Best Hotel-Inspired Candles: Take a little piece of your vacation back home with you

Amid a trade week comprised of appointments, I arrived at a high-profile hotel and immediately relaxed. The reason? The property smelled simply wonderful, an upscale woody scent that instantly evoked thoughts of luxury and tranquility, creating a moment that was intoxicating in the best possible way. A question at the concierge desk revealed that yes, the scent was available to purchase as a candle.

Hotels, restaurants and other businesses increasingly rely on custom fragrances to help set the style of their overall message. Smell ranks first as the sense that creates a memory.

It’s no accident that hotels and resorts are capitalizing on the concept. After all, you may not want to take home the scent memory of your last visit to the Apple Store or Bloomingdale’s (both of which employ custom scents in their locations), but an unforgettable vacation or conference at a resort you loved? That idea wins by more than a nose.

Le Sirenuse, Positano, Italy

Few places in the world are as romantic as Italy’s Amalfi Coast, and chief among the places to stay is Positano’s Le Sirenuse, a palazzo-turned-hotel opened by four siblings in 1951. Fifty years later, the family celebrated the milestone with the release of a signature fragrance, Eau d’Italie. Available as a scent collection that includes a seven-ounce candle, Eau d’Italie is crafted in small batches, with notes that include bergamot, incense and black-currant buds, all warmed by a note of red clay, designed to evoke a scent memory of the terracotta-tiled terrace at Le Sirenuse.

Holiday Gift Guide 2023: The Best Fragrances From (Or Inspired By) Hotels

The highest echelon of hotels know how to take an experience and bed it into something that lives on in the heart. The world’s finest perfumiers do a remarkably similar job. So it’s fitting that - increasingly - the two are coming together as hoteliers create brilliantly evocative scents - and perfumiers pay homage to their favorite hotels creating an experiential circle of glorious memories.

Le Sirenuse, Eau d'Italie

A blast of sunshine from a joyously hedonistic part of the Amalfi coast, Le Sirenuse’s Eau d’Italie was launched to acclaim in 2004 to celebrate Le Sirenuse’s 50th anniversary. Created by Marina Sersale and Sebastián Alvarez Murena, other fragrances have since been launched; but this is the one to start with - with a touch of citrus from terraces of Positano, matched with musk, bergamot and blackcurrant buds for a touch of freshness.

Ligne St Barth Launches Three Scents for Men: L'Original, Vetiver and Islander

The cult brand Ligne St Barth, well known for the Vanille West Indies perfume, as well as for their body oils with Avocado, Roucou, Aloe & Mint Gel, announces the addition of three special fragrances for men in Eau de Parfum formulas: L'Original, Vetiver and Islander.

Focused on well-being, the upscale Ligne St Barth specializes in spa-concept body care products and perfumes, whose secret lies in the use of luscious natural raw materials nuanced by the exotic and sensual scent of the island's flora. Combining the traditional knowledge of plants with scientific advances, everything this company creates is developed at its own site in the heart of Saint-Barthélemy island, one of the most stunning islands in the Caribbean.

But did you know that it all started with recycled rum bottles?

When you find out about certain companies that started out as small businesses and later transformed into global successes, it can only be very inspirational. Founded in the pre-digital era, when there was no Internet to quickly lead them to a global audience, the guarantee of their success involved building a good reputation sustained over time by maintaining a high level of quality, proving that a strong vision, a lot of passion and a little luck can take you as far as possible, even without extensive advertising campaigns featuring film stars and supermodels. Basically, the niche concept reserved for the true connoisseurs was born long before the advent of the Internet and online platforms where numerous enthusiasts would make them known much faster worldwide.

An example is Ligne St Barth, a small independent house that has found a way to stand out and assert itself, gaining a loyal audience by consistently offering high-quality products.

Their roots are right there on Saint-Barthélemy, the French-speaking island of the Caribbean known for its luxe vibe and flawless beaches, where in the 1980s, Mr. Hervé Brin, the founder and CEO of the brand, started selling body oils directly on the beach: Roucou Oil, Aloe Vera Gel, Avocado Oil and Coconut Oil in recycled and hand-labeled rum bottles. His passion for the healing power of plants he inherited from his great-grandmother, Honorine Brin, who was well-known for her knowledge in this field. Together with his wife Birgit, he started to perfect the traditional recipes with new cutting-edge technology and intensive research, developing their first products that captured the French Caribbean way of life. The key ingredients of the line are the ambassadors of the local flora.

Soon, thanks to the exceptional quality of body oils tailored for all skin needs, the demand increased, and, gradually, Ligne St Barth gained an excellent reputation, currently being distributed all across the world in select perfumeries and luxury hotel spas. Since 2007, the range has expanded to offer perfumes. Perhaps one of the most popular scents is Vanille West Indies, a darling on our Fragrantica forum in topics about great vanillas. It is a thematic fragrance that approaches vanilla really generously and without reservations, refining the ingredient with delectable shades of caramel fudge and a sensual touch of orchid. I discovered it a long time ago when I was looking for all kinds of vanilla scents, and it really is a delight! At the same time, their first men's perfume, Homme, has become well-liked, offering a classic and fresh masculine character built from various essential oils of aromatic plants with lavender and oakmoss.

This year, Ligne St Barth has added three new men's fragrances: L'Original, Vetiver and Islander.

L'Original Eau de Parfum for MenEdition 2023

Notes: Lavender, Rosemary, Lime, Anise, Tropical Orange Blossom, Royal Fern, Moss, Hay.

They decided to sublime the formula of the classic L' Homme Eau de Toilette into an Eau de Parfum, re-releasing it under the new name L'Original. The brand guarantees that it has improved the persistence of the fragrance without changing the perfume itself.

I haven't smelled the first version to be able to compare them, but I can appreciate that what I have under my nose is a fascinating and tenacious classic men's perfume. The first detail that jumps out at me is that I don't feel any harsh and synthetic elements in it. If you had blindfolded me and made me test it blindly, I would have immediately said that it is not a commercial perfume. It is unequivocally masculine. In my opinion, this is what an active and well-groomed man smells like. It is not an evening perfume for special occasions but an everyday companion that stays ideal on the skin and shirt.

The initial burst of bubbly aromatics uplifts the soul, and under it, there is a slightly soapy undertone shining through that will remain a constant presence. It starts in a clean, young tone and fades out just like that. It's as if the perfumer's source of inspiration was that morning grooming smell, fresh out of the shower, with steam, a bar of soap, shaving foam, and a classic cologne. It does not sweeten and does not slide onto a predictable woody-amber slope. The smell of its aromatic fougère, smooth and virile like a freshly shaved cheek, refreshes you without constantly keeping your attention on specific star notes - it accompanies you, it doesn't overwhelm you.

The soapy and soothing lavender, together with the fresh and sharp rosemary, is felt right from the beginning and long into the heart, where the clean orange blossoms round off the aromatic accord, creating a backbone for the fern and oakmoss to climb while the dry and sweet hay from the base offers a relaxed, understated quality.

For the purpose of this review, I tried it a couple of times on my skin. On me, it performs brighter and greener, with soft herbal nuances, while on my husband's skin, it's mossy and earthy. I can still smell it on him when he returns from work or his long and arduous training at the gym, and I also got traces of it when we went out to eat one evening from across the table. It is an elegant perfume that evokes relaxation and a state of well-being that you can wear... anywhere.

Vetiver Eau de Parfum for Men - Edition 2023

Notes: Bitter Orange, Lime, Mandarin, Ginger, Coriander, Haitian Vetiver, Jamaican Pepper.

The inspiration for a Vetiver fragrance was born in Haiti, a famous Caribbean island and leading exporter of Vetiver essential oil to the world. Haitian Vetiver is cultivated on plantations in the south of the island, in the Cayes region. The precious essential oil extracted from its roots reveals a woody, earthy, smoky, and tad nutty aroma. These facets have been faithfully restored in the Vétiver Eau de Parfum.

Audaciously bright and evidently handsome, this is a fresh take on vetiver that favors its bright, moist, and grassy (and, frankly, divine) piquancy at the expense of its more earthy and smoky sides. A raw and vibrant perfume, full of sap and energy, this is essentially a fresh woody composition with a mineral twang that makes me think of the calmness of a field and the warm breeze of a summer day. The uplifting complementary notes of orange and lime rind deliver a distinctive, zesty, and luminous touch, followed by the warm, spicy twist of ginger paired with coriander. This effervescent cocktail adds a delicious dimension and an understated elegance to the dominant vetiver. The end result is a daily and addictively wearable fragrance.

Islander Eau de Parfum for Men - Edition 2023

Notes: Lime, Vetiver, West Indian Bay Leaf, Martinique Rum, Guatemalan Cardamom, Caribbean Guaiac Wood, Tabacum Havana, Cedrus Atlantica.

The West Indian Gulf Tree (Pimenta racemosa) is native to the Caribbean islands. Sailors sailing through the Caribbean in the 16th century discovered that crushing the leaves of Pimenta racemosa released the well-known, aromatic, and spicy bay oil. They would rub the leaves on their bodies to mask their body odor on their long sea voyages. They discovered that infusing the leaves in rum (which they drank daily) made it easier to extract the bay oil and apply it to the body. And that's how the Bay Rum perfume was born. Over the centuries, sailors carried this perfume around the world, adding citrus peels, spices, and other ingredients to enhance its scent.

In the mid-1800s, Bay Rum became a very popular aftershave in barber shops in the Caribbean and across America. On Caribbean islands such as Puerto Rico, St. John, and Dominica, Bay Rum is also used by locals to relieve fever, muscle aches, insect bites, and more. Ligne St Barth sought to preserve this beautiful Caribbean tradition while adding a modern touch to create an authentic fragrance, Islander. The top notes have been kept (green lime, vetiver, bay leaves from the West Indies combined with an old Martinique rum), with the addition of cardamom from Guatemala – the queen of spices. Its base notes reveal Caribbean guaiac wood, Tabacum Havana, and Cedrus atlantica.

Islander is a warm and seductive perfume in which crushed bay leaves and tobacco smolder on an incandescent base of Caribbean spices, smooth rum, and Guaiac wood. As far as I know, the rum note in perfumery is created from an accord of cinnamon, vanilla, cloves, citrus peel, and bay with a touch of honey, and all these components are discernable in the Islander formula. Despite a slightly sugarcane aftertaste, this toffee-colored juice is by no means a gourmand but is oriented towards the boozy, warm-aromatic zone that defines the bouquet of a rum aged in an oak barrel. A delicious scent that yields a kind of bohemian vibe and lasts long into the night...

The new Ligne St Barth fragrances L'Original, Vetiver, and Islander are available as 100ml Eaux de Parfum in heavy glass bottles with a frosted finish and fine silver caps with a design reminiscent of vintage rum bottles. You can find them on the official page www.lingnestbarth.com, as well as in selected perfumeries and on www.beautyhabit.com.

Cannabis Eau de Parfum: Luxury in a Bottle

Elevate your scent game with these fresh plant-friendly fragrances.

The question must be asked: When does being sprayed with “skunk” weed smell good? Well, it doesn’t. But when hemp extracts, in their rawest form, are carefully infused with the likes of pink pepper, oud, vetiver or vanilla sandalwood as a fragrance, it takes on a whole new scentsation of personalization and luxury.

The truth is, I thought I might be hard-pressed to conjure up enough fragrance brands in this genre to fill a page. And begin writing this piece before testing or sniffing any samples. Except for Fresh’s Cannabis Santal Eau de Parfum—when it launched in 2006, I may have been one of their first customers when I purchased it at Neiman Marcus. It’s the OG in this category and truly is a terrific fragrance. So, when I was tasked with this assignment, it happened that at that same moment Fresh decided to discontinue the scent—at the height of the party, no less. Then, just as quickly and with a lot of pushback, they relaunched the fragrance. In my mind, with a hint of added elegance. And, yes, it was the Fresh relaunch that sparked this story.

The moment I was deluged with all the fragrances as they arrived, my story took on new life. While each of the below scents were entirely unique on their own, they also carried a sophisticated quality about them, in packaging, presentation and, most importantly, the final aromata that I wasn’t really expecting to stand up to Fresh. But they did. And there wasn’t one eau de parfum that didn’t smell great. Do note that the pictures don’t do the brands justice—as it was their in-person presence and scent that wowed me.

Chronic Eau de Parfum

19-69 made me lean in, hard. A seriously tasteful surprise that reeks of monied London, circa 1969. A few notes are bitter orange, Russian clary sage, cannabis accord, cashmere wood and moss.
